Vito: Vito saxophones have been made by Vito (Wisconsin), Beaugnier, Leblanc, Yamaha, Jupiter and Yanagisawa. Keep this in mind when attempting to date your instrument. Yamaha: These serial numbers are probably only for the Vito labeled YAS-21/23/25 stencils. However, these serials might apply to all Yamsaha instruments. Is Vito a good beginner sax? I'm shopping for an alto sax for my 7th grader. Found a Vito in excellent condition (like-new pads, keys all work and in-tact, very few dents/scratches), with hard case (a Le Blanc) for $450. This is a solid Beaugnier-made Vito alto sax, serial number 1181A. This horn is a fantastic step-up model for players who love vintage instruments but can't spring for a more expensive Conn or King. It is built well, and has just been fully repadded. It is ready for a new home and will bring years of enjoyment.

As you can see in the photos, the lacquer shows a fair amount of wear, but it is all from honest use. The sax has obviously never been abused, and shows no signs of past dent work or trauma. The original neck too has never been beat around. This sax was just repadded using firm leather pads and flat metal resonators, and has been set up well, with a lighter spring tension. It feels like butter under your fingers.

Sonically, this alto plays with a very full and commanding voice. It takes all of the air you can put through it and you never feel like you are hitting a wall. For the same price as a lot of student model horns out there, this is a far better instrument and will not disappoint. It is built to last! Ships in its original hard case.
